Asparagus: Fresh in a Meal!Asparagus is a versatile tasting piece of produce that is seriously under minded. It sits a palette of water or sometimes on a bit of ice. The reason it needs to sit in water is because it is actually still alive. (Compare it to flowers you see at the flower store.) It is still using the water that it gathers to drink! That means.. I don't suggest keeping them in water in your fridge. As soon as they leave the water at the grocery store, they should be eaten within a day or so. That is because the water starts to drain out of this vegetable and most of us break off the "hard end". How to Cook Fresh Asparagus
It is very quick and easy to cook. From the frying pan to the oven, this very versatile item of produce can change the look and taste of your meals 10-fold. For a quick oven fix, using just one tablespoon of olive oil on the bottom and shake the pan side ways. Sprinkle some coarse black pepper on top and 10 minutes in the oven at 350 degrees Celsius to cook them up! It is also very high in folic acid, which is essential for the body when trying to make a strong umbilical cord for soon to be moms. However -**Word of caution: If you are pregnant this is an amazing vegetable to eat to get your folic acid in with. BUT, it is so high that you really should talk to your doctor and use the supplements that you gather from them. This stick of produce can also be used to assist with kidney problems. For best storage put it in the fridge as keeping it on the counter will have it loose over ½ of its nutrient levels in a matter of just 2 short days. Either way.. Asparagus is a delicious addition to any meal and to add tiny taste of sweetness squeeze lemon over top just prior to cooking.
