Cholesterol: Control Your Cholesterol

Cholesterol: Control Your Cholesterol

Did you know that the labels on packaged food that say cholesterol free mean they are made with “no animal fat”, and they can only be this label if it has no more than 2 g of saturated fats.

Even if it doesn’t have any saturated fats at all!

One of the main purposes of high-density lipo-proteins (HDL) is to bring the blood to the heart and protect it by clearing fat from the blood stream.

The HDL also takes away the extra bad LDLs, which is why you want more of it! The LDL (low-density lipo-proteins) brings the blood into the heart and is more likely to be leaving little "friends" inside the walls of the heart. Foods that are high in saturated fats and cholesterol raise your over all LDL readings.

The most recommended way of increasing your HDL levels is to quit smoking, eat healthier and become more active.

(The faster your heart is beating, the more it is working on carrying out the bad stuff. This is all in co-operation with the rest of your body and how your cells work). Let’s be honest here. Some people reading this have absolutely no intention of ever getting off the couch.

Now, this may be due to the lack of ability and not necessarily the lack of motivation. Start small. If you cannot get off the couch, begin with small legs lifts.

Then work towards a walk around the block. Next thing you know, you may be walking to the store.

Becoming physically active is no small feat. It is very tiring and requires a lot of motivation.

However, by making very small changes (depending on your activity level) you could be well on your way to becoming healthier and happier with a longer life span just by working to lower your cholesterol levels.
