H1N1: The Swine Flu & Your Family

My Personal H1N1 Swine Flu Scare: A few weeks ago my 4 year old started coughing. And coughing and coughing. This went on for a couple of days before a fever set in.

Then, it was like hand in hand.. He stopped eating. Then with one nasty bout of coughing, he started vomiting. With the telephone in hand I called Teleheath Ontario (1-866-797-0000) and was directed to the nearest ER.

I'm not going to lie. Fear overcame me like nothing before. Did my little guy have H1N1?

H1N1: How to Survive the Pandemic

Well, I can tell you that although the Doctor said he didn't, the gasps I heard in the ER as people watched a small child walk in with a mask on his face was devastating.

They treated him like the plague.

While generally a happy go-lucky guy, no one smiled at him, no one even wanted to talk to him. Instead, they all covered their mouths and looked away, as if that would protect them from this pandemic.

After meeting the Doctor he said it was likely strep throat. Again, I'm super lucky to have a very close friend as a nurse at this same hospital and she gave me the REAL low-down on how hospitals are treating the Human Swine Flu.

"If You Didn't Get a Prescription, it's Likely H1N1"...

Well holy cow! That was my first thought. I consider myself a pretty smart lady, but the thought never even crossed my mind. Instead we left with an asthma puffer and a mask for his little teddy bear.

If it was strep throat I would have gotten a prescription.. How's that for interesting!?! Goes to show how the hospitals are really dealing with this pandemic.

And that's straight from a Nurse.

However... Another Nurse Has this to say.. (The two don't know each other)

Should You Be Afraid of the H1N1 Or Swine Flu?

H1N1 Flu known more commonly as the swine flu continues to be a threat to all of us. H1N1 Flu or the swine flu has already and continues to affect individuals from all walks of life but has not followed the normal pattern seen in influenza. Most people that acquire the condition have recovered successfully without the need for medical treatment. Some however, have been less fortunate.

Did you know there have been 3,205 deaths from this flu worldwide according to the World Health Organization? In the United Sates there have been less than 500 deaths. Have you watched the news lately?

DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING.. Including Your Kids..

This is one of the hardest and most impossible things on the entire planet. It really doesn't matter if you don't have kids..

Chances are that you are touching surfaces that have germs on it without even thinking. The tap in the kitchen, the door handle to the car or work, the light switch, your face.

Ellie makes even more interesting points such as the grocery store. Just because you are making an effort to stay healthy does not mean that the apple you just picked up to squeeze didn't have someone else just before you who'd sneezed into their hands touch it.

Be cautious without wearing plastic wrap everywhere. It is possible that you can get through this pandemic.

College campuses have exploded with cases of the flu since the fall classes began. With the close quarters the students are the perfect candidates for the flu. But it does not end there. Our elementary schools, business, public gathering places, churches, and any place people are is a potential spot to acquire the flu.

The scientist have done studies that support the virus can survive on surfaces and can infect a person for 2 to 8 hours after the virus first lands on the surface.

Think of it.

Someone sneezes in the grocery store on their hand and then touches a shelf, or a handle in the store.

Three hours later you come to the store and touch the same shelf or handle and the virus is now on your hand. Without thinking you touch your hand to your lips or bit your finger nail and now you have the virus.

There is not much you can do unless you want to live in a plastic bubble or never leave your home. But you could decrease your risk to acquiring the flu by building up your immune system.

A compromised immune system is wearing a sign saying pick me, pick me. That is all we need to hear to before we cringe.

Have you ever thought of using a supplement to help reduce your risk? What kind of supplement you ask? The best way to build up your immune system is to provide your body with super antioxidants.

Super antioxidants will help to eliminate the free radicals in your body thus increasing your immune system and greatly increase your change of acquiring the swine flu.

What is an antioxidant? Think of an antioxidant like Vitamin E and Vitamin C. The super antixiodant, Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins or OPCs are the most powerful antixoidants in the world. Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins has been found to be 20 times more powerful than Vitamin C and 20 times more powerful than Vitamin E.

Want to decrease your risk to the swine flu? Want to build up your immune system? Do your homework. Explore the options of making Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins or OPCs part of your daily diet.

Remember My Friend the Nurse.. She had H1N1..

And guess what? Her boss told her that she had to drop off her doctor's note.. AT THE HOSPITAL!

Isn't that insane? My friend was baffled.. Not just because it's the Swine Flu, but because she works on a level of the hospital that is the end of the road for people. People want to spend thier last days in what comfort they can, not catch the Flu from a nurse whose boss says she has to come in..
