Almost everyone has at one point in their life eaten a hot dog.
Yummy and easy to eat in the summer, they have also been known to be added to Mac & Cheese for a protein boost. But are they really a protein? Because of the amount of additives that are included in this food it can be be difficult to distinguish between what is real meat and what isn't.
And considering that it has approximately 16 grams of unhealthy fat it should not be the first option for children either. At least with Hamburgers the fat can drip off the meat when it is cooked on a BBQ.
No matter how you cook it..
Whether you are boiling hot dogs or BBQing them, it is best to avoid them at all. If you are stuck in the forest and there is absolutely nothing left for you to eat then by all means..But seriously. It is not just their high fat content, but the things we add to them as well. Please remember that Ketchup is filled with sugar and food dyes that often cause food allergies in children as well as an increase in hyperactivity.
Then you have relish, cheese, chili... The list goes on and on. Really most of the toppings we put on this meat are generally healthy for you but in moderation and watching the salt content.
