Pregnancy Health: What does your baby try to tell you when Your Pregnant?
If you have ever been pregnant you probably have gotten the cravings. With the sugar, a big juicy steak, or bag of chips. Oh, those wonderful cravings.
Year after year we hear about someone who we know is pregnant. Sometimes they have funny cravings, sometimes they don’t. Myself, I craved sardines and pineapple.
Thank god it was never at the same time but since I had never had them before I couldn’t imagine why I was suddenly drooling over it. So I indulged.
Occasionally I also craved the Nibs licorice but since I was petrified of becoming too overweight with baby I monitored how often I would eat it.
What is your little person is trying to tell you when that sneaking desire creeps into the bedroom at 4 am and it is screaming ‘ICE CREAM!’?
Or how about the 3 pm pickle craving, that’s always nice isn’t it?
Consider what you are craving. If there is something salty that your body is demanding instant gratification for, you may be running a little low on that nutrient.
Salt: Consider eating a saltine cracker instead. Good to curb the craving and the nausea! Or make a really good chili.
Dry beans like kidney and Lima beans are both an excellent source of salt (the good healthy kind that helps for the cravings), and protein.
The other major craving is for sugar. This one is a biggie. Typically women will indulge in this wonderful little treat but what should also be noted is that after you eat something sweet: You want more, and more, and more.
Chocolate Bars, Ice Cream, Lollipops, there really is no end to the Candy at the Candy store.
But there are AMAZING ways you can replace it. A pear that has been purchased at the store a few days ago should be just about or already ripe.
When a pear is completely ripe this is when its sugars are at it’s maximum. This is a great way to feed the unborn child and quench that craving without packing on the pounds as well.
Apples both rich in fiber and pectin are another splendid way to curb the cravings and get good nutrients in to fulfill you and your baby's needs.
Folic acid is a major recommendation that doctors make as well. But, before you run to pick up the Asparagus double check with your doctor.
All around take a moment to find out what it is you are really craving and what the baby is trying to tell you.
When the cravings come it is your body running low and telling you to top up. In the long run you, your body, and baby will all be happier and healthier for your decision to walk to the Food Market instead of the Candy Market.
When it comes to Pregnancy Health, you really need to consider what you are eating and how often you eat it. Your Pregnancy Health is the opportune time to change it all.. Take this time to give your body what it needs!
