Daily children are sent to school with quick treats to snack on. More and more often these little snacks are filled with preservatives and additives that more often then not spike blood sugar levels and deteriorate teeth enamel.
With other childrens allergies to consider, P,B & J just doesn't cut it anymore. Whether its the dreaded peanuts, or some other random allergy we can't send our kids to school with the easy stuff anymore.
And along comes the marketing giants with thier Spiderman ploys to get your kids to want thier Dunkaroos, or TMNT Fruit Candy. But its made with real fruit right?
So? Just because it says it is made with real fruit doesn't mean that you or your children are getting the nutrients of the stated fruit. Those Quick treats that are saying that, are based on prior processing times.
During the processing times, about 90% of what would be good is lost due to colour dyes, as well as all the other wonderful stuff they do to food to make it taste good.
So what can a parent do when making those little lunches?Well, to start DON'T PANIC! It will be okay.
Being as I slowly have found my way through the maze of the school year, I found fresh fruits and vegetables are the way to go.
A great treat to start the day is a cup of milk, and 1/2 a cup of blueberries. This was a wonderful summertime treat that my mom always made for us.
Delicious and easy to eat and even better easy to make!
