What a great way to alter the taste of food. Most people use salt.
Dill, parsley and garlic are just some of the great tasting plants that I use in my recipes. Buying fresh is also cheaper than buying a container with it sliced and diced and dried for you. Especially since you can do it yourself.
But why? When the big companies are making their bucks and we are thinking that they have our best food ideas at heart because it says low calorie or low sodium consider this...
If you over cook a vegetable the nutrients are lost. The same goes for it is flash frozen, stuffed with preservatives and shipped and handled than sent home with you.
Fresh herbs are no different. Not only is the taste dramatically altered by the big company preparations, it's just not the same. The taste and the kick that you get from fresh is missing in store bought jarred, there's no gusto you could say.
It's cheaper to buy by the bundle, and to store it yourself. And the seasonings last much longer.
One of my absolute favorite vegetables to add to a soup is Onions. It adds plenty of nutrients and taste as well!
Oh, and PS.. If you think that the only way to add a little zip to your life & or dinners is to add fresh herbs, try using almonds, ginger, lemons or even citrus fruits in place of spices!
