It does more then cook food or let us swim in it. When working out it, protects our lean muscle mass and allows the muscle to “swell” up or expand.

The one thing that most of us do not know is that when exercising what we drink cannot be counted towards our regular allotments. Why?

The reason being is that when working out and increasing our heart rate, the body is dehydrating itself. So continuing to drink H2O while working out is the only way to continue to hydrate your system.

If you are sweating and have no water in your system then the body will react in other ways such as dizzy spells etc.

What else does H2O do? Did you know that water keeps you regular? Yup, if you suddenly lower your daily allotment, your likelihood of having constipation increases 3 fold.

Then when you start drinking it again, the “release” point is very low as the body is not accustomed to drinking. Best bet is to slowly increase your intake especially if you are an office worker and cannot leave your desk every 5 or 10 minutes for a bathroom break.

In children dehydration is shown in different ways. When running outside, bright red cheeks are the way that lack of fluids is evident. And it is even more important not to give children sugar at this time.

This is up to and including kool aid, ice tea, and Popsicles. Yes, they are all traditional ways to “cool” down the body in the hot summer sun, but they are actually increasing the natural body heat.

Sweating is the body’s way of cooling down, and if there are no nutrients available to help the body cool down then trouble is ahead.

It is disgusting and has no taste? Sorry folks, suck it up. The fact that there is no taste should be your first signal that your taste buds are awry.

Those cute little tubes of Crystal light you can add to sweeten it up are packed full of sugar and other preservatives and they do not help the body at all. Adding these makes it impossible to count that drink towards a daily allotment.

Water is much too important to your body to try to sneak it in anyway you can. There is only one way to get it. Whether it is from the tap, the bottle or the well is the only way, but certainly not if it is colored or sweetened.
