Home Composters: What to Do in the Winter

by Jenn

What can I do about home composters in the winter. I am an avid composter in the summer so what can I do in the winter?

I do not want to find maggots in my composter or near it!

Home Composters What to do!
by: Celeste

Hey Jenn,

I absolutely love getting this question. The main reason is because come winter not to many people are interested in home composters (especially if you live in an apartment) because of the heat.

Meaning, if you use one during the winter, seems like it has 'friends' a lot faster than during the summer months.

So what is my winter cure all for home composters?

The Freezer.

Assuming you have enough room, it is an easy fit into the top of the refrigerator freezer or an little small apartment sized one.

Either way, with it being frozen you never have to worry about flies or anything else coming along from your home composter!
